Indonesia's furniture industry exports soar by 33% in 2021!

The furniture industry plays an important role in promoting the development of the manufacturing industry and improving the performance of the national economy. This is reflected in Indonesia's 2021 export value of ethnic furniture products exceeding 2.5 billion US dollars, an increase of 33% over the previous year's 1.9 billion US dollars!

Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita attended the opening ceremony of the 2022 Indonesia International Furniture Fair (IFEX) on August 18. Appreciating the implementation of IFEX 2022, Agus Gumiwang Katasasmita said: "IFEX is the largest furniture exhibition in Indonesia and even in Southeast Asia, and has so far proven its ability to positively impact the furniture industry in Indonesia, making The furniture market can continue to prosper."

Agus Gumiwang Katasasmita said several studies have shown that Indonesia's furniture industry has an opportunity to fill the global market. For example, the Centre for Industrial Research (CSIL) estimates that global furniture consumption will grow by 3.9% in 2022. This growth will be boosted by a recovery in the EU market and stimulus from the Resilience Fund.
In the domestic market, the government's increased efforts to increase the use of domestic products (P3DN) must make it a driving force for the furniture industry to improve product performance, Agus Gumiwang Katasasmita believes. To this end, the domestic furniture and handicraft industry must pay special attention to obtaining the domestic component grade (TKDN) certification in order to be able to sell its products in electronic catalogues.
"This year, the Ministry of Industry has prepared a free TKDN certification scheme for 1,250 products. For next year, we are also seeking to increase the budget so that 10,000 products can be TKDN certified free of charge." Argus Gumiwang Katazas Mita said.
